I loved the unpredictability of this book and the characters relationships with one another. It has humor, vamps, murder , a strong woman with a smart mouth and much more. What's not to like about it!I loved it and can't wait for the next!

Review Of Serena Embracing Darkness By Laurie Bowler Will Laurie never cease to amaze me? Her Vampire stories always seem to consume me. When I first starting reading Serena Embracing Darkness I thought Serena Taylor was such a cold-hearted b*tch. I knew from reading the blurb and all that Serena was a Vampire but in the very beginning it didn't appear that she was one yet and so I was enraged by her behavior towards her husband and especially her children. As the story progresses shortly after that I get slapped in the face with the realization that, yes Serena is in fact a Vampire and she seems to have met her equal in Timothy a.k.a Tim. They seem to instantly have a love/hate relationship that is fun to read and watch unfold. In this Vampire tale all the Vampires know what you are thinking and therefore one must always been on their guard not to think about anything that will cause the wrath of the other Vampires which, for Serena, is hard to do at first. I loved her little twist on these Vampires. Upon their first meeting Serena does the unthinking (which she doesn't know at the time) all the while not realizing that Tim is a silent witness to her misdeed. Tim in no uncertain terms explains to Serena that she must come with him and he will teach her how to be a Vampire. What we do not realize up to this point is that Serena has never met another of her kind except for her maker whom takes his own life shortly after biting her. Therefore she is unskilled in how to hunt and what laws she must govern herself by. This is where their clash of wills takes off and is most enjoyable to behold. As soon as Serena starts to pick up on the do's and don'ts of being a Vampire it quickly turns into Tim needing to protect his new apprentice from her foolhardiness and other Vampires that are out to destroy her for doing the unthinkable. Because of this they free to America from where they are in Abu Dhabi. No sooner do they get to America and all Hell seems to break loose. Now the other Vampires don't just want her dead they want some mysterious relic that her mother had stolen from her ex-boyfriend whom we find out is not just any ole' Vampire but one who has appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner of all Vampires. This book was enthralling and had me quickly turning the pages. I know this review may, to some, seem cryptic but to explain to much, in my opinion, might ruin other peole's enjoyment of this book. In reading this book you learn not all is as it seems and what you think you thought never was. On a scale from 1-10 I give this book a 10. Lauie is forever impressing me with her unique writing style and creative situations. If you enjoyed her Moon Rising Series or if you are looking for a dark paranormal story you really need to pick up this book.Link:

Vampires, Vampires, Vampires. Are you getting the hint here? Laurie Bowler delivers a full length novel that is deep, dark and brooding. What exactly does she have in the pages of this totally moving and suspenseful tale of woe?“Serena finds herself thrown into the dark world of the dead; her own maker had killed himself shortly after biting her. Leaving her unconscious and unaware of the monster she'd become, her only clue to his identity was the relic he'd left behind, the one Serena lovingly placed around her neck before returning home to her mortal family where she tried in vain to live without being noticed for the blood thirsty monster she'd become. The relic that will inevitably open the gates of hell and unleash war across the human race, must be kept safe and away from the greedy hands of other immortals.Serena is the keeper and unknowingly holds the relic, while her mother harbours the secrets that will end the current conflict. It's only then Serena finds the truth about immortality and how to reside harmoniously alongside humans, the price of immortality is immensely high; she must release her hold over her mortal life.Survival, wits and the bonds of love are the concepts that will see Serena through the path of righteousness and allow her to live through the immortal path of time with a wealthy knowledge and expectancy of things to come.Together they must stand and fight while maintaining their own level of pride in their feeding combined with the teachings of Tim into the revelations of the new world which is dark and dangerous beyond Serena's control.”When it comes to vampires, I can say that Laurie Bowler knows her stuff. Paranormal romance is right up her alley. Serena is dealt a bummer of a hand and must deal with what she has been turned into. Swift moving action, new worlds created, and a deft hand by the author carries this novel through. If you are thirsting for adventure, and blood lusting over a good read, look no further, and download this incredible novel of suspense, agony. What are you reading today? Excellent book where the writers talents have been spread throughout the pages of the book. The storyline is about vampires and shows all the old traits we are used to reading with the paranormal creatures such as these, but Bowler has explored and developed new traits that I am excited to see explored in more detail in Bowler's later editions of paranormal romance.Reading this book Serena is strong willed and has an incredible way of showign that she can hold her own against the men and many different forces in her life while she is trying to maintain the balance between her once human life and the new life of the vampire. Learnign the new ways and battlign with others, trying to find out the secrets that will end the current conflict. This review might sound a little odd to some of you, but believe me with the storyline involved sayign to much in a review will ruin the fun for you, and I wouldnt want to my reviews to contain spoliers that could potentially ruin your fun reading time.

I hated this book. The only reason I even tortured myself enough to finish reading it was because I was already halfway through and wanted the credit towards my 2012 reading goal. The grammar was horrible, wrong words were used so I had to pause and figure out what was really being said. The last pages I had to just skim, because I couldn't handle it anymore.

Serena Embracing DarknessBy Laurie BowlerWhat would you do for revenge? What would you do to keep the people you love safe?Serena Taylor has a secret life that she has hidden from her husband, Jake and her two children. But when she has the opportunity to visit her mother and escape from her marriage, she takes advantage of that time to take a little revenge on the man she believed had taken her mother from her life. Just like Serena is doing, fleeing from a less than satisfactory life, her mother had done the same many years ago, leaving behind Serena and her brother, Ben to blame themselves. Now Serena has a chance to extract revenge on her step-father, Mitch and her mother but will her life ever be the same?Serena is a vampire which is the big secret that she has been hiding from everyone! She was turned unwillingly only to have the vampire who sired her commit suicide. She knows nothing of the Vampire code or rules of conduct and when she sets out to kill Mitch, she unleashes a mess because of her ignorance.Tim is an old vampire who has his own secrets but he can’t help trying to save Serena from the mess she has made. He takes her under his wing and teaches Serena what she needs to know to survive and in turn, falls for her. But the danger is larger than either of them suspect and the consequences of Serena’s vampiric nature is more than they bargained for.Serena Embracing Darkness is a fast paced mystery where the reader is constantly finding unexpected secrets that change the story! When I began the story, I had no idea just how differently my feelings would become towards the characters and their lives. Serena and her mother seem like two money grubbing women who want nothing but a big bank account, but we quickly learn that they have more to their character than what we first see. The depth of the love between Tim and Serena is amazing. We come to learn about a lifetime of love and it makes you want to believe in fate and true love. Serena Embracing Darkness is filled with interesting characters that move the plot and capture the reader’s attention. We learn so much about Serena’s family, especially her brother, Ben and can’t believe that this family has kept so many hidden secrets! But the humans are nothing about keeping secrets or being interesting….the Vampires are just as exciting!! From Henry’s sparkling wit and John’s wiliness to hit on all the women…we find characters that are filled with depth and passion. If you enjoy a book filled with exciting characters, major action and many secrets you are going to love Serena Embracing Darkness. Maybe you will even take a second look at that hair stylist when she never seems to age or change… after all, the Vampires could be closer than you think!

This is the fifth book I have read from the increasingly impressive Laurie Bowler. With each new book, the author's imagination, descriptive powers and portrayal of emotions reaches a whole new level. Serena Embracing Darkness is no exception.Although I found the book a little uneasy to start with, the main character's personality at the beggining of the book was a tad unlikeable, by the time I had finished the first couple of chapters I was hooked. Serena Embracing Darkness is a whole lot darker and more adult orientated than the previous books I have read from Laurie.Written from the perspective of the lead character, Serena, the story follows her as she comes to terms with her new immortal life. The interaction between Serena and the male lead, Tim, starts very fiesty, but gradually develops into romance, a subject Laurie excels at. Gradually Serena is introduced to Tim's friends and there is a great deal of humour in the interaction between them, particularly the scene where Serena and Tim are together in bed with John and Henry talking to them from the other rooms. That had me laughing out loud, a rare thing for me reading fiction. The biggest leap forward for Laurie in this book has come from the fight scenes, much greater detailed and better paced than in her previous books. This adds to her already excellent abilities for descriptive writing and emotive story telling. All in all, I have to say Serena Embracing Darkness was a thoroughly enjoyable read, gripping, imaginative, emotional and, in places, laugh out loud funny. I never saw myself as someone who particularly enjoyed vampire stories, but Laurie Bowler may just be converting me. I am looking forward to reading the follow up to this story, Depths of Darkness, as well as any future releases from this author.Top book.

A disappointment! The writing is rushed with little character or place developement. It was like reading the author's notes for the book, not the final product. It is obvious that the only real interest of the author is the romance between Serena and Tim, everything else is incidental. In fact, I found Tim incredibly annoying, if he had kept me in the dark and patronised me to the extent that he does Serena, there would have been an almighty ruckus! It seemed she had gone from one controlling male to another. The editing of this book also leaves a lot to be desired with spelling errors and words missing or letters left marooned mid-sentence.It is a shame, the synopsis seemed so promising.

Serena is based upon the actions of a real person that I know, it was while I was creating the storyline that I decided to turn Serena into a vampire and add a different taste of vampire mystique to my already growing pile of paranormal stories. And just for the record, Serena does not have chidren while she is a vampire..if the story is read correctly it is clear Serena was turned after she'd had her children!!!Again, happy reading and enjoy the story.Laurie

I found this novel pretty boring. I just couldn't stand the slow points. Not to mention Serena, at first she was all half mother, half violence and evil. Then she had such a personality split that left me wondering if the author made her bipolar. I can't say I really liked this one at all. I'm giving it 1.5 stars.
