smell my feet 10 seriously silly and sweet short stories for squirts Reviews
Entertaining, silly, whimsical, thoughtful funSmell My Feet! is a delightful book of 10 short stories that youngsters will love reading or having read to them. While every story is fun, there are also positive messages. And the characters involved are as varied as the subject matter. Some stories are told in first person, the rest in third, and characters range from humans to animals to books. Yes, books! In every story, you see the joy that author Martha Rodriguez must have experienced as she delved into each one. As a reader, you can't help but wonder just how much of it is based on her own life experiences, family and friends. At the same time, there are elements to each story that share in the universal human experience.Kids will have more than one favorite character or story, and so will their parents, and all will love to read and re-read them over and over again. This is not a follow up to the author's A Reel Cool Summer, but a book that stands on its own. I enthusiastically recommend Smell My Feet!, as the dedication page puts it: "For all kids... Short or tall, big or small, young or old."
Short stories for children . . . “short or tall, big or small, young or old” are what Martha Rodriguez entertains her readers with in Smell My Feet. Sprinkled throughout the ten stories is a love for children, family, and friends. The stories are real, everyday occurrences, which children relate to. Each story is unique and fun - what better way for children to learn valuable life lessons.I can picture a child finishing a story and applying a lesson hidden in the mastery of chosen words by the author. It’s an easy feat to accomplish with the clever characters that match the literary genius behind them.Smell My Feet! displays a respect for children while raising the bar of expectations, without being condescending. I applaud Martha Rodriguez for this extraordinary skill.
I won this book in a giveaway from the author. I was excited as I love children's literature. Smell My Feet truly is filled with lovable and silly stories kids will enjoy. There are 10 clever short stories that will keep kids thinking about what is taking place. Positive messages lace it's pages. I like how the author kept the theme of everyday life throughout the book. Children will relate to everyday happenings and likely think of themselves, their own relatives, or friends in the same situations. I want to explore other tales by Rodriquez.
It took sic visits with the grand kids, but we finally finished this wonderful read. This a great collection of short stories for both young and old. Martha does an excellent job in telling each one. Some have a heartfelt message, while others are purely for fun.Our favorite stories were “An Angel Without Wings,” “The Disappearing Doughnut Dilemma”, “The Book Party”, and last but not least, “Smell My Feet.”Bottom line, if you’re looking for some wonderful stories to read to your grandchildren, or some stories they will enjoy reading to you, than wait no longer.
