Vampires anyone? Laurie Bowler has taken the genre to a whole new level with her body of work. She is definitely a busy gal with her newest full length novel, The Depths of Darkness. She also has her new series Across the City which has three installments in publication already: The Beginning, The Battle Begins, and Carnage with a fourth on the way, The Alliance. Laurie will be my guest in The G-ZONE next week April 5th @ 8.30am EST to discuss all that and much, much, much more. Enough witty banter, what is between the virtual covers on this one?“Award winning author Laurie Bowler adds another full length novel to her impressive library of novels and digital short story series with The Depths of Darkness. This novel has it all: vampires, romance and enough paranormal vision from an author that has become a force in the Vampire/Paranormal genre. Feel free to download these 100,000 words of intensity; sink your fangs into it and join her coven.”One thing I found out about this type of writing: the paranormal, vampire type thing, is that there are no rules, everything goes and what we are pretty much left with is the imagination of the author to create these new worlds, beings and character traits. Laurie Bowlers is quite fertile. The world she creates for us in Darkness is a place that is eerie, dark and inhabited by some pretty interesting creatures or beings. Take your choice as to what you may call them; I am going with creatures. If it walks and talks like a creature, can rip my neck out, and dismember me, then it is a creature. The quality of the read is apparent right from the get go, and the journey into Bowler’s new found world is swift and wrought with action, suspense and drama.Just as a side note, I would like to make the suggestion that you join The Novel Spot as I have. Laurie has her own discussion group there, as do many other authors, and she would love to hear from you. The Depth of DarknessBy Laurie Bowler151 pages: NovellaProtecting the world is a large task but someone has to do it! Patty Deville is human who works for the Realm and has been learning a little magic. Now she learns that there is more to her than meets the eye and she must give it all she has to save the world.Patty was a foundling child who was adopted by a nice human couple. But when Patty discovers a magical tome in her backyard, she unlocks her own magical powers and reaches out to the Realm for instruction. I loved Patty’s optimistic outlook. No matter how rough her life was, she always tried to see the best. Even with learning that she was made to take out her former friend, Lilly who is hell-bent on destroying the world.Luke Granger is a vampire who is assigned to secretly watch over Patty and protect her. But strong feelings begin to develop between them, although a relationship between a vampire and a witch is outlawed. Luke is a funny, sweet guy who takes his job very seriously. He doesn’t really understand Patty but is willing to do anything to protect her and make sure that she is happy. He even is willing to go against the rules and offers to turn her.The Depth of Darkness is a thrilling read! The world that Laurie Bowler creates is one filled with magic and mayhem! Vampires, magic, and mythical creatures abound. The mystery surrounding Patty’s creation and final outcome kept me surprised and excited. I still want to know about all her many parts. However, my heart broke along with Patty’s own when she found all the earlier creations that didn’t last. It showed me just how much depth the Realm was willing to go to in order to save the world. I really loved the creatures named the Meniagier. They seemed like large dogs with their slimy kisses and pack mentality, except that Patty could ride them! I would love to have one for my own!! The romance in The Depth of Darkness was sweet without being overwhelming. Luke and Patty make a strong couple and both were willing to put the needs of the other first. I was glad that Darcy was able to find someone else and quit being so nasty to Patty. Love doesn’t always follow a natural course and just because Darcy knew Luke for longer, doesn’t mean that he would love her more.I highly recommend The Depth of Darkness to all fantasy readers who love an exciting read, filled with epic battles and unique characters. Each piece of the puzzle will keep you interested and digging for more!

This is the sixth book I have read from this author and is the best yet. I wasn't sure this would be able to improve on the already impressive books I have read previously, but boy am I glad to be proven wrong. This story is a bit of a departure for the author from her previous books in that the lead character, Patty, is not a vampire, but instead is a witch. The story is read from the perspective of Patty and follows her as she tries to uncover the truth behind the death of her mentor Matace. As the story progresses she learns greater truths about herself and her purpose in the world of witches and immortals and finds herself fighting to protect the worlds of both mortals and immortals.Again the author's descriptive powers come to the fore, imaginative and detailed descriptions that paint the scenes into your mind leaving you immersed in this wonderfully imaginative world. The character's emotions are again portrayed to a very high standard and leave you willing them to succeed. The humour in places does well to give a welcome break in the tension. The imagination of this story stands head and shoulders above the author's previous books with a great variety of different demons, spells and parallel worlds. This is definitly this author's finest work to date and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it from start to finish. This is a must read.

Witches, Vampires and all kinds of creepy monsters.creatures in this book. A great adventure and a great read with strong willed characters, newly introduced characters and paranormal beings.A recommended read for anyone who enjoys adventure, witches, vampires anything paranormal with romance, I thoroughly enjoyed this book particularly with the fight scenes where I noticed a huge enhanced difference with the way author has written them and introduced them.
